Amy Sinatra Ayres

Amy is a freelance writer and editor who worked on breaking news for ABC and AOL before she started writing Pet Scoop for Vetstreet.com. (Don't tell anyone, but pet news is much more fun!)

She lives in Northern Virginia with her husband and two young daughters, who all share a love for their very spoiled chocolate Labrador, Grizzly. Now closing in on age 10, Grizzly has taken up a new hobby: stealing food. The whole family has learned that they can't turn their backs for a second if they still want to eat what's left on their plates.

Grizzly spends his days lying by Amy's feet in her home office as she writes for Crittr and Vetstreet.

An adopted Pit Bull puppy’s rags-to-riches story inspired one of the most clever and adorable videos we could dream up: The Fresh Pup of Bel Air.

Fido’s journey from the West County Shelter, where “the kennels were small but the workers were cool” to a real home in Bel Air triggered the imaginations of the folks at The Pet Collective, reported Today.

Line by line, the lyrics in Will Smith’s song, which was the theme of his 1990s show, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, are replaced with Fido’s story.

“I pulled up to the house thinkin', Man, this is great!
A fresh-cut lawn! And bones! Smell ya later!” the pup raps in the parody.

One of our favorite parts is the cameo that stars actor James Avery, who played Smith’s Uncle Phil in the sitcom.

Kayode the southern white rhino was born at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
Ken Bohn, San Diego Zoo Safari Park

His name means “he brings joy,” and he’s certainly living up to it already.

Kayode, a baby southern white rhinoceros, was born on Feb. 25 at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park while visitors looked on.

He weighed in at 125 pounds, which is just a fraction of the 4,000 to 5,000 pounds he could top out at when he’s full grown.

It didn’t take long for Kayode to take off exploring the 55-acre East African Plains exhibit, where he’s spending his days with this mom.

Southern white rhinos are listed as “near threatened” because they’re often poached in the wild. There are an estimated 20,000 of them remaining.

It may include the voices of Hollywood A-listers Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds and Nicolas Cage, but as far as we’re concerned, Belt the sloth is the most exciting star of the new animated movie The Croods.

Opening today, the DreamWorks movie features a family — the Croods — on a journey to a new world when the cave they live in is destroyed.

Belt plays the role of the “world’s first pet.” Like modern-day pets, the little sloth can’t talk — except to give his singsong expression of impending doom, “da da daaaaa!” (Trust us, it’s very cute in his little voice.) He belongs to the teenager Guy, who uses him for friendship — and to hold up his pants.

And Belt isn’t the only animal featured in the comedy. The crew encounters plenty of other creatures on their big adventure, including monkeys and a primitive-looking canine.

Check it out in the trailer below.

With her Academy Award-winning movie Les Miserables coming out on DVD tomorrow, star Amanda Seyfried is kicking back — with her dog.

“He’s dreaming on me,” the actress tweeted on Monday, along with a picture of her BFF, Finn, curled up with her.

Earlier last week, Seyfried tweeted another photo of the pup running, and revealed that Finn has his own Twitter handle: @finn_seyfried.

There, his cover photo is a still from the movie All Dogs Go to Heaven 2, and he refers to Seyfried as “Mother” in his tweets.

We’re pretty sure Finn has picked up more than a few new followers!

Baby aardvark at Busch Gardens Tampa
Adam Lewis, Busch Gardens Tampa

Aardvarks are known to be solitary creatures, so their births are unusual. That just makes the arrival of a third offspring in three years that much more exciting for parents Izzy and Friz at Busch Gardens Tampa.

So far, Mom is the primary caretaker for her latest arrival, who was born Feb. 6, and the animal care team has been providing additional support.

The little one, whose gender isn’t yet known, joins big brother Zawadi, who turns 2 in April, and sister Adazee, who turns 1 this month.

The baby is expected to reach about 120 pounds in its first year.

We’re not sure how anyone could sleep next to this snoring. But not because it’s distracting… just because it’s so stinkin’ cute!

See if you think Beckham sounds like Daffy Duck, as the YouTube poster described it.
